Registration to attend The Buchan School and King William's College for the school year 2017-2018 for all students in each year group is now open.
A happy and lively school nestled in 13.5 acres of beautiful grounds, ensures your child can make the most of learning both inside and outside the classroom. Our curriculum is unique with pupils guided by subject specialist teachers and a strong focus upon Academics, Art, Music, Drama and a range of Sports and preparation for Common Entrance examinations. French is taught from Reception onwards, with Spanish and Latin also offered. Our Buchan Badge programme takes a modular approach to a range of exciting skills, including horse riding, sailing and cookery.
We ensure that our class sizes are small, with an average class size of 15, so that we can meet the individual needs of each child. We also have a wide and varied after school programme, which your child can take part in. Activities include a range of Sports, Music and Drama, along with Latin, German, Mandarin, chess, touch typing and classical civilisations.
We are extremely proud of our academic achievements.
Our 2016 IGCSE results were the second best in the College's history with 47% of results graded A*-A (other Island schools 18.8%) and 94% A*-C. Our average class size is 15 and for a non-selective school we have outperformed some of the leading UK independent schools, including Millfield and Sedbergh.
In 2002 King William's College began teaching the International Baccalaureate Diploma for the first time. Since then more than 800 students have studied the Diploma with us and we have become one of the largest and most successful IB schools in the British Isles. We believe that it is excellent preparation for both university and life beyond and it is the only qualification we offer in the Sixth Form. Our average class size in the Lower and Upper Sixth is 10 and the entry requirement to study the IB is six IGCSEs grade C or above.
In 2016 our students achieved an average of 32.5 points (which attracts more UCAS points than 3A*s at A level), eight pupils achieved 40 points or more (which attracts more UCAS points than 4A*s at A level), putting them in the top 5% in the world and two local students achieved a remarkable 43 out of a maximum score of 45 points, placing them in the top 1% of students worldwide.
