English IB

Our students can choose either the Literature course or the Language & Literature course at IB, at either Higher or Standard Level.

All Group 1 courses involve reading a range of plays, novels and poetry. Our students begin their course by preparing for their Internal Assessment, which takes the form of two different oral presentations. One oral presentation takes place in front of an audience of class members, the second is a recorded commentary which takes place at the end of the first year of study. Students also prepare written coursework which is externally assessed and finally, take two examinations in the May of their Upper Sixth year. The first examination is an unseen paper, the second is based on Literature texts that have been studied during the course.

Students are also encouraged to read as widely as possible. Our outstanding Librarian ensures that we have an excellent selection of fiction and non-fiction texts available, as well as the latest editions of a range of magazines and newspapers.

Our son has been at King William’s College for two years and has settled in very well with the full support of the boarding staff and teachers, who have demonstrated great kindness and caring. The highly disciplined, but dynamic education system has helped our 15 year old son to adapt well and his confidence has noticeably improved in a short space of time. What's especially pleasing is that not only does the College have an excellent calibre of teaching staff and a strong academic curriculum, but we have been surprised and delighted to discover their excellent music achievements! With such great experience, our second son will also join KWC starting at Lower 5, to have a well rounded education. We cannot be more pleased with our decision to send our sons here all the way from Hong Kong!
