Will Pound plays his harmonica and melodeon for all the Buchan Prep children. He has been described as a 'master of the mouth harp.'
He is one of the foremost harmonica players in the UK, and is one of the few to successfully adapt the instrument to the rigours of playing folk music. His main source of inspiration is roots music, and he includes tunes from all over Europe in his repertoire.
Will showed the children his £5,ooo melodeon and played folk, jazz and classical styles of music on it. They were amazed to hear that he plays with famous artists such as Robbie Williams and Paul McCartney and has recorded albums and been on tour with them. He told them that his work is varied from doing workshops in schools to teaching his instruments to people on skype, recording with artists in studios and playing to people in their houses and hospital!
The children were amazed when he finished his demonstration by playing the melodeon and harmonica together to the tune 'Jingle Bells' which he recorded at Christmas.
The children asked some good questions about the instruments and learnt a lot. We might have some budding Buchan melodeon and harmonica players in our midst. We'll have to wait and see!
