Music Activities this week

Posted in School News

In P1 Rosa has been singing ‘This is my garden’ rhyme to the tune of ‘Twinkle, Twinkle’ with mum.  She has enjoyed all the music and dancing to the beat and hearing the different rhythms.  Sophia and Jessica also sang the song remembering all the words and actions.   Jessica also tackled the difficult challenge of singing ‘Once A Man Fell In A Well….’which all Prep have been learning.  She sang the song with the correct pitch actions noting the change at the end of the song and doing the correct actions.  Well Done!

This is My Garden : Finger Rhyme Song

This is my garden,
(extend palm of hand facing up)
I’ll rake it with care,
(rake palm with 3 fingers of the other hand)
And then some flower seeds,
(plant pretend seeds on palm)
I’ll plant there.
The sun will shine,
(circular action with other hand)
And the rain will fall,
(fingers flutter down)
And my garden will blossom,
And grow straight and tall.
(cup hands and ‘grow’ fingers upwards like flowers)
(sing to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle)

Grace in P2 enjoyed singing and doing the actions to ‘Once a man fell in a well’.  Faye enjoyed matching the rhythms to the kitchen utensils.

William B In Form 1 has enjoyed making up his own ringtones.  He thought about pitch, dynamics. Tempo and duration.   Sophia also made up a good ringtone.

Artie, Ella and Jayden  in Form 2 composed melodic ostinati using fruit .  Katie recorded a super composition using melodic and rhythmic ostinato.  She had lots of fun and giggles.  Arthur P enjoyed creating a melodic ostinato and Ophelia and Jake chose super notes from the pentatonic scale along with the correct rhythms to go with her composition.  Jamie composed a rhythmic ostanati.  Evie G-A enjoyed the music colouring and rhythm and notation work with fruit and vegetables.  Isolde enjoyed the A-E of artists.  Abba, Bob Marley, Cher, Diana Ross and Ellie Goulding were her choices.

Jamie (Form 3) completed the VE Day music activity and chose to illustrate the song lyrics with a picture of a spitfire plane.

Coming in on a Wing & a Prayer - Anne Shelton

Comin' in on a wing and a prayer
Comin' in on a wing and a prayer
With our one motor gone
We can still carry on
Comin' in on a wing and a prayer

What a show, what a fight
Boys, we really hit our target for tonight
How we sing as we limp through the air
Look below, there's our field over there
With our one motor gone
We can still carry on
Comin' in on a wing and a…

Amira in Form 3 tried the technique of Mickey Mousing (musical sound effects that mimic the action) and recorded herself on a broomstick cackling amongst other things she also made a rhythmic and melodic ostinato this week.  Ameilie used her dolls house and characters to do a sketch she wrote down the sound effects- Foley Artist.  Emilie wrote down some sound effect too.  Connor wrote about artists he enjoys listening to and one of the groups is ELO and Mr Blue Sky.  He enjoys the starting sequence as the melody in his opinion is perfect.  Grenya composed a sketch called ‘A Summers Day’ she used musical sound effect in her composition about her hot tub.  Kye and Brodie also enjoyed writing about artists from different genres of music.  Kye enjoys Beethoven’s 9th Sumphony.  Brodie also did the A-E of artists task and one of his artists is Jan Ladislar Dussek’s Opus 39-3 (Andante).  He enjoyed the opening and liked the fast parts in it.  He also composed a piece called ‘The Children went for a run’ and used sound effects.  Alexander enjoyed the Mickey Mousing’ activity and seeing what it was all about.  Frey made up some sound effects and enjoyed writing about her favourite artists.  One of her artists is Ariana Grande and the song she liked is ‘No tears left to cry’.  She enjoys the riff and tempo of the music.
