Registered Nurse

For King William's College and The Buchan School School Nurse required as part of small team providing medical care and health education at both schools. Ideally three days a week; term-time only. Seven day rota at College includes week-ends, and some evening/overnight on-call duties. Must have relevant medical experience, and be personable, organised and have an interest in education.

REGISTERED NURSE (Part-Time)

Summary
The post holder, as part of a team working on a rota system, will be expected to provide medical care and health education to pupils at King William's College and The Buchan School and first aid care to all members of the school community and visitors to the school as necessary. The team will also ensure that all relevant administration associated with the role is properly carried out in accordance with the school's Medicines Management Policy.

Key Accountabilities

  1. To provide medical care to pupils of King William's College (KWC) and The Buchan School, and also to staff and visitors if necessary while on site. May be required to arrange medical, dental and other health appointments, assessing and implementing inpatient care in the Medical Centre, and to provide first aid and emergency care for sports-related injuries, which may be at the sports pitches. Part of the role, if on duty over the week-end at KWC, will be to attend home sports fixtures, and be available on the touch-line.
  2. Provide Health Education to the schools, keeping up to date with current health initiatives, and providing confidential health and wellbeing advice.
  3. Liaise with the School Medical Officer when necessary, and attend School Health and Safety Committee Meetings.
  4. To take effective preventative health measures including monitoring and following specific directives and best practice in respect of immunisation procedures, infectious disease control and the safe disposal of clinical waste.
  5. Comply with the School's Health and Safety Policy and take responsibility for Health and Safety matters relating to the School Medical Centre.
  6. To maintain stocks of first aid kits throughout the school and ensure the safe storage, usage and disposal of medical supplies and drugs. To maintain stock, hygiene and tidiness and to maintain accurate accident records.
  7. Maintain Nursing records, including computerised records, accurately, confidentially and safely and to record the dispensing of drugs following school protocols. To set and organise school medical examinations and maintain general office procedures.
  8. To provide on-call nursing cover at KWC in evenings and overnight, as part of a rota, for boarding pupils.
  9. Maintain an appropriate level of training in all areas of practice. PREP is a legal requirement in order to retain effective registration and hold current NMC PIN.

Remuneration
Remuneration will depend on skills and experience.

Hours

Holidays
School holiday periods are not worked, subject to the occasional extra days worked at the beginning and end of each holiday, as required, referred to above. Being a school, Public Holidays during term-time are worked, and no additional time off is given in lieu of these. Since the hourly rate for the hours worked includes an element of holiday pay, the school holidays are unpaid.

Employer and Line Manager
The Employer is King William's College, which runs the College and The Buchan School together as one organisation. The post holder's Line Manager is the Bursar at King William's College.

Pension
Access to the school pension scheme may be offered subject to the usual company qualifying period.

Work Permit
Any offer of employment will be subject to the applicant obtaining a Manx Work Permit, if required.

Medical Examination
The successful applicant may be required to undertake a medical examination at the expense of the College.

Police Check and other Pre-Appointment Checks
As the post-holder will be working in a school environment, any offer of employment will be subject to satisfactory Police criminal record checks being obtained by the College, and there being no issues of concern being raised by this (the latter being at the absolute discretion of the College). Further checks will also be required, including confirmation of identity and satisfactory references.

Sports Centre Cleaner

Experienced cleaner required for the sports facilities at King William's College.

Responsibilities include general cleaning of changing rooms, showers, squash courts and cricket pavilion.

Hours are flexible, either an evening 9pm-1am, or early morning 4am-8am, Monday to Saturday. Salary is negotiable depending on experience.

One year fixed term contract.

This is a one year fixed term contract and the weekly working hours are 9.00pm to 1.00 am or 4.00am to 8.00 am Monday to Saturday. On Occasion there may be a requirement to work outside these set hours.

The Candidate
We are looking for an individual with experience in a similar role, who will be well organised and will ensure that cleaning products are used effectively and that the locations are clean, pleasant and safe for students and external clients. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong work ethic recognising needs and planning around them, this is in addition to time management skills and ability to work unsupervised.

The successful candidate will be honest, reliable, flexible, reasonably fit and capable of prioritising tasks.

An understanding of safe working practices and health and safety legislation is important.
