There are numerous opportunities for extension in the Creative Arts, particularly in Buchan Badge time.
These include the enormously popular short film project. Over the past three years this has turned into one of the most popular projects at the Buchan. Children devise and film a silent comedy, using the works of Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd as inspiration. The results have been enormously entertaining as you may agree should you wish to catch them on YouTube. Premieres of the films have become a favourite part of the School calendar.
Last year we began our first series of radio plays, these included the scary folk tale, A Tall Tale, and the ground-breaking sci-fi comedy, A Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. These have proven to be incredibly successful and have even been played on Manx Radio to the whole of the island.
Monday evening Film Critics Club has become so popular it is now often over-subscribed. We share our enjoyment of films that have often gone 'under the radar', this has included a season of Japanese animation from the great Hideo Myasaki and a season of classic children's films from the 1980s. We discuss the work of specific directors, film techniques, story devices, effects and the history of cinema.
They learn, they have fun, they always want to go back. children love this school.James P
