Buchan brings music to life at Abbotswood

Posted in School News

Pupils from The Buchan School have performed an eagerly anticipated Autumnal-themed concert to residents of Abbotswood Nursing Home in Ballasalla.

The Buchan Chamber Choir performed a special collection of seasonal songs including ‘Morning has Broken’ and ‘If I were a Butterfly’. Director of Music at King William’s College, Steve Daykin, and Head of Buchan Music, Sue Mills, accompanied the pupils, with Mr Daykin on the piano.

The residents at Abbotswood had a lovely afternoon singing with the choir, listening to their musical performances and enjoying the variety of soloists. One lady celebrated her 95th birthday on the day and was treated to a special rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’.

Miss Mills said: ‘It is such a privilege to be invited to sing at Abbotswood Nursing Home each year. Both the children and residents enjoy it immensely, it’s always a feel-good celebration. We are very proud of their performances and how they took time to talk to the residents afterwards, demonstrating their care and compassion at a young age.

‘It’s a fantastic experience for our young musicians and such a valuable learning opportunity. The songs were a real hit with everyone singing and clapping along! Well done to our wonderful Chamber Choir and talented musicians.’
