Fundraising for Rebecca House, Children's Hospice

Since its opening in November 2007, King William’s College has helped to support  Rebecca House, the children’s wing of the Isle of Man Hospice.

Many events, such as the recording of the EllanVannin song with Robin Gibb, the magic card show by Mr Cowley of the Maths Department and more recently, the mufti day on the 18th of May 2010 when children dressed up as characters from TV or film and the Easter Fair held in Stenning, have all allowed King Bills to contribute funds to this worthy cause.

When raising money for a charity it is always good to know where your money is going and how it is being spent and so on Thursday 27th May two representatives from Rebecca House, Mrs Doyle and Nurse Sandra, came to King William’s College to talk to L4 and U4 pupils. We learnt about the work they do for children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and all about the facilities which help these brave children have a good time and also give their parents a break. We were able to look at photographs so that we could really get a feel for what life at the Hospice entails and to see how much the children enjoy themselves. At the end of the assembly there was an opportunity to ask questions and we learnt something of the illnesses that affect the children and about how often the children visit the Hospice.

It was really pleasing to know that all the money raised by the staff and pupils at King Bills is going to such a brilliant cause. I sincerely hope that our fund raising efforts may grow even further now that we really understand what we are helping to support.
