Message from the Chaplain – Father Huw Mordecai

Father Huw MordecaiAs Chaplain I see myself as having three roles within the College. First of all I have a Pastoral duty to all members of the College. Anyone can come and talk to me about any issue that is troubling them, safe in the knowledge that what has been said will remain confidential between us. I will give them whatever help I can, and I will pray for them.

In a public capacity I also have the responsibility for Chapel. An act of worship is held almost every day, and the week concludes with a full service on Friday afternoon. I want these to be lively and engaging, so that all who attend may be stimulated to consider issues of faith. King William’s is proud of its Christian tradition, but I hope that everyone will feel welcome in Chapel, whatever their own beliefs.

My third role is Academic, and I teach across the school, from Lower Fourth to Upper Sixth. Religious Studies is compulsory for the younger years, where we begin by studying the life and teachings of Jesus, before moving on to looking at Christianity in the Twenty-first Century and other contemporary faiths. All of this is excellent preparation for the GCSE option which is offered in the Middle Fifth.

Finally I try to be around, and involved in as many parts of school life as possible. King William’s is a wonderful place, and I want to do all I can to support the splendid things its members are doing.
