Creativity, Action and Service

CAS stands for Creativity, Action and Service and participation in the programme is a requirement of the International Baccalaureate Diploma

CAS ‘provides a counterbalance to the academic self-absorption some students may feel with a demanding school curriculum’. Students should share their energies and special talents while developing awareness, concern and the ability to work cooperatively with others in the school community, and in the wider local, national and international community.

The emphasis of CAS is on experiential learning and each student is expected to be involved in various College activities to discover new skills and identify personal strengths and weaknesses. At King William’s College students are given the opportunity to choose from a range of extra curricular activities to fulfil the requirements of CAS. Many of these activities, like the student newspaper, the publishing group, the environmental group, assisting teachers in the Buchan, cooking, the ‘Soup Kitchen’ project, volleyball, charity work and art and craft have become established Wednesday afternoon activities. Students themselves develop their own ideas, start new projects and offer their services and skills to the College and wider community. Our younger students are able to enjoy after school and lunch-time football coaching and many CAS students support our many drama and music productions and fundraising events.
