Stenning House was established as a Junior Day House in September 2000. It was decided to name the house after the Reverend Canon Ernest Henry Stenning who was a past Vice Principal and Chaplain at King William’s College. The naming was in recognition of the forty four years of service he put into College.
The two year groups representing years 7 and 8 are called Lower 4 and Upper 4 in King William’s College. The forms are mixed ability and streaming is introduced in the first term in some core subjects.
A proportion of teaching time takes place in the Stenning block but pupils also move to other areas in College - e.g. for Science, Art and Technology. There is a three-form entry in each year group and each form is looked after by a tutor. The form tutors closely monitor the pupils in their care, reviewing academic progress and pastoral matters and report back to the Head of Year on a daily basis.

The Curriculum: Lower 4 study the core subjects of English, Maths and Science along with French, Spanish, History, Geography, Technology, ICT (Information & Communication Technology), Art, Music, Drama and Religious Studies. There are timetabled lessons of PSHE (Personal & Social Health Education), PE (Physical Education), and Games.
In Upper 4, the same subjects are taught and Adventurous Training is introduced for 2 lessons a week, in preparation for the Duke of Edinburgh (DOE) and Combined Cadet Force (CCF) activities which start in Upper 5.
Sports and Activities: The working week is designed to offer a full and balanced mix of academic and sporting life. Towards the end of the academic day, therefore, sport and activity time is slotted in. On the major sporting side, boys have rugby, soccer, hockey and cricket, whilst girls have hockey, netball, rounders and athletics. At lunchtimes and after school, a range of training sessions and extra-curricular activities are offered. A full list of activity options is displayed during the first week of term, and the forthcoming programme for each term will be e-mailed to parents.
Assessments: Students are assessed regularly throughout the academic year, and these assessments are communicated to parents.
