Tempus fugit!
Life at school is building up to a crescendo with very little time left before the end of term. Our U6 pupils are entering the final stages of their IB studies – all that is left now for most of them is revision, practice, revision and more practice! Next week the Visual Arts students will start mounting their exhibitions in readiness for examination in the first week of next term. Every year I look forward to their exhibitions and talking with the pupils about their displays and portfolios: their skill and imagination never fails to impress me – but more of that next term!
Last evening I attended a performance of ‘Into the Woods’ in Big School and was thoroughly entertained – there were some highly accomplished performances , and it was clear that a great deal of hard work had gone into the staging of this challenging musical. Undoubtedly blood, sweat and tears have gone into it as well! I do hope that audiences enjoyed it as much as I did.
I’ve been out and about meeting people quite a bit over recent weeks. The Head of Boarding and I spent 3 days in Munich where we were able to meet up with some of our overseas parents to give them some up to date feedback on their children’s progress. We enjoyed meeting them and I do hope that this can become a more regular event as it is important to keep in close touch with our parents, no matter how near or how far away they are from King William’s College.
I also had the opportunity to spend some time meeting OKWs and Buchan Old Girls at the annual KWC Society London dinner at the end of February. It’s always interesting to hear stories of their time at the school and also to find out more about what they are doing now. The Foundation Manager and myself were taken on a backstage tour of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden by the Director of Productions there – Dave Pritchard: another OKW. The sheer scale of the operation was quite simply breathtaking and I hope that this contact is one which our Theatre and Drama students may take advantage of next time there is a school trip to London.
